Dungeons & Dragons - The Best RPG For Pen and Paper

Dungeons & Dragons is the original and best RPG for pen and paper role-playing games.

It was designed by game pioneers Gary Gygax and Dave Arneson and first published in 1974.

The early success of the game led to many similar games and game systems being designed.

But to this day, D&D remains the most popular pen and paper role-playing game in the industry.

The game is a structured but open-ended role-playing game.

It is typically played by one "dungeon master" and several players.
Each player has their own player character and the dungeon master is in charge of the overall story line and running the game.
The game typically requires the main rulebooks, polyhedral dice, and character sheets for each player.
Dungeons & Dragons has seen many different editions, including: Original Dungeons & Dragons (1974) Advanced Dungeons & Dragons 2nd Edition (1989) Dungeons & Dragons 3rd Edition (2000) Dungeons & Dragons v.

3.
5 (2003) Dungeons & Dragons 4th Edition (2008) In 1997, TSR was purchased by Wizards of the Coast.

The company has owned D&D since then and followed up with the release of 3rd Edition D&D in 2000. Three years later, a revised edition known as D&D 3.

5 was released.
This revision included hundreds of rule changes and expanded the core rulebooks. Since the release of 3.5, two major versions of the game have been created.
The most notable is Dungeons & Dragons 4th Edition.

However, Paizo Publishing also created a game called Pathfinder which stays more true to the 3.
5 ruleset and has refined it. The game has been ported into multiple other media outlets.
There have been many PC games and console games created for the world.

There is an MMORPG for the game called D&D Online.

There also have been several full length movies created about the game, and an old cartoon series in the 1980's. Some of the negative publicity about the game initially came from certain religious groups for alleged practices, such as devil worship, witchcraft, and a variety of other negative activities.
For a while, there was a social panic over the game which led to even more social ostracism for fans and players of the game.
Eventually, D&D grew past these images but it still remains part of the game's history.
Overall, Dungeons & Dragons remains the most successful and best RPG ever created as a pen and paper role-playing game.

Odds are, if someone has only played one pen and paper RPG, D&D is probably it.

The creators, current owners, and players of the game continue to make ingenious strides in the small industry. The game has been translated into many languages beyond its native english.
It is suggested that it has been played by more than 20 million players.
Dungeons & Dragons continues to be, and will remain, the best RPG for pen and paper role-playing games ever created.
